Police chief wants ticket revenue to go elsewhere

Leadfoot drivers in Calgary were issued nearly 325,000 speeding tickets last year and the revenue generated from those fines goes right back to the police budget.
But, the chief of police thinks it shouldn’t.
Chief Rick Hanson says the city should consider a police service that’s totally mill-rate supported and send traffic enforcement revenue back to the city.
Hanson says then and only then, would those who believe police use traffic enforcement as a cash-cow, be convinced otherwise.
The police commission is looking at diverting photo radar revenue back to city coffers. The traffic enforcement cameras alone generate roughly 32-million dollars a year.
