Two well-known Alberta athletes will be the guest speakers on Wednesday at a Right To Play Canadian Awareness Program event in the city.
Right To Play uses sport and play to improve health, build life skills and foster peace for children and communities around the world affected by war, poverty and disease.
Two-time Olympic medal winner, cross-country skier Beckie Scott will be on hand along with marathon runner Martin Parnell, who finished 250 marathons in 2010.
Parnell tells 660News, he became aware of the program a few years ago and really wanted to help out.
The marathons helped him raise over 280-thousand-dollars for the children’s charity
A private event is being held on Wednesday morning from 11:30 until 1:30 at the Calgary Petroleum Club on 5th Avenue SW and is a joint venture between local wealth management firm Richardson GMP and Right To Play.
A public event will be held Tuesday at 6:45, featuring Parnell and Canadian women’s hockey great Haley Wickenheiser.
