Calgary spared devastating weekend wind chill

There is no doubt Calgary had been cold over the weekend but unlike other parts Canada under a cold snap, the city was spared a wind chill warning.

Brenda Niska-Aro, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the coldest spots in the west Sunday pegged in in at – 39 with wind chill in parts of the Edmonton area and parts of Manitoba which boasted a wind chill in the – 45 and – 50 range.

Niska-Aro said the arctic cold that hit Alberta Sunday morning from the Northwest Territories was a high pressure system and that usually brings very light wind.

Temperatures should head above zero in Calgary on Monday.
