Over 200 crashes on icy Calgary streets

The snow made for another very slippery drive on Tuesday.

Emergency crews scrambled to respond to the more than 200 collisions that occurred between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Vehicles were scattered in the snowy medians across the city.

14 of the collisions involved injuries, while 32 others were hit-and-run incidents.

Deerfoot Trail was the biggest trouble spot, with an empty school bus and a semi involved in one of the many collisions.

Fortunately, police say there were no life-threatening injuries.

Two of the crashes on Deerfoot involved downed light standards near the Calf Robe Bridge and Southland Drive.

Sean Somers with the city roads department tells 660News they’ve had a full crew targeting the major thoroughfares all day.
