The Economist blasts Harper government

This article is more than 5 years old.
First Paul Martin, now Stephen Harper.
After calling Martin “Mr. Dithers” in an article a couple of years ago, The Economist is now taking direct aim at Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his decision to prorogue parliament until early March.
And, the popular financial magazine isn’t pulling any punches, calling the move “naked self-interest.”
The editorial says it’s amazing how the government’s ministers apparently can’t answer simple questions in the house on something like the on-going economic crisis while putting off a major event like the upcoming Olympics.
It compares them to former U.S. President Gerald Ford, who apparently couldn’t walk and chew gum at the same time.
This editorial comes as a new Angus-Reid poll indicates Canadians are not at all pleased with the government’s decision.
53 per cent of Canadians disapprove of the move, while 46 per cent are in favour of it.
Not surprisingly, the lowest support for the move came in Ontario and Quebec, while the government found the most support for the move in western provinces.
