A special avalanche warning has been issued for the mountainous areas of the B.C. Interior.
The warning includes many popular snowmobile and backcountry ski areas in the Northern Rockies, the Cariboos and Selkirk Mountains.
The avalanche danger in many of these areas has recently been rated high.
Karl Klassen with the Canadian Avalanche Centre tells 660News, they are asking backcountry enthusiasts to steer clear of these areas this weekend.
He says they’re asking people to stay on low angle terrain that’s well away from avalanche slopes.
The special avalanche warning starts Friday and runs through to Sunday.
Klassen adds a current storm system with warm temperatures, wind and rain is adding more weak layers to the snow pact.
