A prominent Calgary psychiatrist is facing a charge of sexual assault.
City police say last Friday, an unidentified 36-year-old man came forward, alleging he had been sexually assaulted while under the care of Dr. Aubrey Levin.
Sex crime detectives launched an investigation and yesterday, the 71-year-old was formally charged with one count of sexual assault.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta has suspended Levin’s medical license, pending the outcome of the case.
Levin came to Alberta back in the 1990’s after working as a psychiatrist with the South African military.
He has testified at a number of high-profile criminal trials in the city.
Police spokesperson Kevin Brookwell tells 660News they are asking people with more information about the doctor to come forward and share their stories.
Levin was released from police custody after posting bail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance April 8th.
