The Wildrose Alliance might be the flavour of the day in provincial politics, but it’s the Stelmach Tories that have the bucks to fight in an election.
According to Elections Alberta the Tories raised nearly $2.8 million last year.
That compares to nearly $700,000 in fund-raising for the upstart Wildrose Alliance.
But Alliance Executive Director Vitor Marciano predicts the Progessive Conservatives are going to have a tougher time raising money this year. Marciano believes for his party, it’s going to be easier.
The Tories currently have a war chest of $4-million.
U of C political scientist David Taras tells the Globe & Mail, “Money talks and money talks big!”
Taras says the money figures are an endorsement for Stelmach and where it counts, in the wallet.
The Alberta Liberals were second in fund-raising last year. They brought in about $100,000 less with a total of nearly $770,000.
