Ring road construction moves forward with new contract

The province has signed a 33-year contract with a group of companies, in order to move ahead with the southeast portion of the ring road in Calgary.

Representatives from all three levels of government gathered at the McDougall Centre Friday to announce the new P-3 contract, which is worth $769 million.

The Chinook Roads partnership will begin construction next month on the southeast stretch of Stoney Trail, from 17th Avenue southeast to Highway 22X.

“The contract for Stoney Trail SE will save taxpayers $1 billion,” said Premier Ed Stelmach.

The additional 25 kilometers of ring road will be open to drivers by the fall of 2013.
