The Alberta Children’s Hospital was the site of a valuable taste testing program Monday.
Nursing students took small amounts of horrible tasting drugs to develop empathy for future young patients.
Tim Kraft, a staff pharmacist at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, tells 660News a summer time treat can help deliver an important dose of medication.
He says popsicles are a very effective tool and are often given before the medicine to help numb the taste buds.
Kraft adds that chocolate is also used to mask very bitter tasting drugs.
The taste testing takes place about eight to 10 times a year.
