Stalled bucks for transit could move soon

It’s looking like stalled provincial cash for commuter trains and transit expansion could be up for grabs within weeks.

Alberta’s $2-billion green trip fund was announced two years ago, but put on hold due to recessionary pressures.

Tammy Forbes of Alberta Transportation says that money will be ready to flow in six weeks.

At that point, cities will be able to pitch mass transit programs to get some of the funding.

Forbes says because the criteria for projects still needs to be fleshed out, it’s too early to say what types of projects will be at the top of the priority list.

She adds basically they’ll be looking for projects that will take cars off the road and reduce greenhouse gases.
