B.C. offers help in oil spill

British Columbia is offering help with the cleanup on the Gulf of Mexico.

The oil spill in the Gulf Coast is a massive, unprecedented event that threatens the livelihood of thousands.

Premier Gordon Campbell says the province can send a team that includes 15 Environmental Emergency Response officers.

BC companies are also coming to the aid of those trying to contain the oil.

According to CTV News, Burnaby business Versatech is working frantically to help. The company is testing 12,000 feet of booms that will be sent to Louisiana Monday.

A different company in North Vancouver called Aquaguard is one of the only businesses in the world that makes skimmers. The remote controlled devices suck in as much as one barrel of oil per second.

Three skimmers are being shipped to the spill.
