Fire Department urges yard safety

The Calgary Fire Department wants people to make sure their yards and decks are fire safe this summer.

Spokesman Dean Krupa tells CTV News they’ve already received several calls about faulty barbeques. He suggests keeping your grill safe by cleaning out grease, making sure propane lines are free of leaks and make sure it’s far away from combustible structures.

Firefighters held a safety demonstration at a home in Harvest Hills Monday morning, as part of a new campaign encouraging Calgarians to pay attention to fire hazards outside their houses.

The C.F.D. says there have been four large fires in Calgary in the past two months caused by people putting cigarettes out in planters.
