A Calgary man has died after kayaking over a waterfall in the Crowsnest Pass area.
Jaron Kooperberg intentionally paddled over Lundbreck Falls.
The 29-year-old was an experienced kayaker with at least five years experience, and friends say he’d successfully paddled over Lundbreck Falls during other outings.
People who’d gathered to watch saw Kooperberg’s kayak plunge over the falls, he then fell out of his craft and was pushed under water by the force of the fast-moving water.
RCMP Const. Melanie Sokoloski tells 660News other kayakers rushed to his aid and tried to resuscitate him.
EMS arrived and took the man to Pincher Creek hospital where he was pronounced dead.
RCMP in Crowsnest Pass urge people to take plenty of caution in area rivers because spring runoffs are elevating water levels, and creating swift flowing currents.
