A convicted killer living in Calgary has been deported to Bosnia.
Elvir Pobric was removed from the country on Monday and is now in the hands of Bosnian authorities.
Pobric is wanted in Bosnia after escaping from prison where he was serving 20 years for robbing and killing two men in 1992.
He was convicted of killing an associate who traded in black market foreign currency, as well as a cab driver, but Pobric has denied the killings.
He was arrested in Calgary last year, thanks to tips from the public.
“We welcome the news that this murderer has been removed from Canada and is in the hands of the appropriate Bosnian authorities. Our government remains committed to ensuring our communities are safe, and that Canada does not become a safe haven for fugitives trying to escape justice,” said Minister of Public Safety Vic Toews.
