Some feathered foes are making themselves at home on a Calgary golf course and that might be problem for those who are teeing off.
The Calgary Sun reports the McCall Lake course is once again home to what’s believed to be a Nesting Swainson’s or Red-Tailed Hawk, which is living in a tree near the second fairway on the par three course.
Greg Shymanski, golf course operations coordinator with the City of Calgary, says they’re definitely birds of territory.
He says the hawks, and also some local Red Wing Black Birds, are known to attack humans from behind if threatened while nesting.
In other words, they’ll “fly out and they’ll take a peck out of the back of your head.”
A fish and wildlife officer says most birds become very aggressive as their offspring learn to fly.
