The International Avenue Business Revitalization Zone or BRZ has a dream and Monday, will pitch it to council.
When the community was founded about 100 years ago, part of the plan was to have a railway line running through the community.
It never came to be, but as part of its revitalization plan for 17th Ave southeast.
The BRZ has a dream that would eventually see a C-Train run through the spruced up corridor.
According to The Calgary Herald, other elements of the plan include spacious sidewalks, plenty of trees, ritzy condos and architectural standards reflecting the spirit of the name International Avenue.
The president of the Forest Lawn Community Association believes the plan is really going to revitalize the neighbourhood, which currently features 435 businesses along the strip.
Alderman Andre Chabot thinks it’s a good idea as well, but feels the plan can’t sit on a shelf, collecting dust. He’s proposing a tax levy on businesses in the area over a period of 15 years to pay for the costs associated with the re-development.
