It’s one for the record books, for the first time in its 98 year history, the Stampede pulls the plug on its Grandstand show which includes the Rangeland Derby.
Officials say after inspecting the track and looking at the weather forecast, they decided in the name of safety to cancel the show.
The king of the Rangeland Derby, ten-time champion Kelly Sutherland tells 660News, while he and his other competitors were disappointed about the news, they understood why the decision was made.
He’s confident track repairs can be made Wednesday and the wagons will be racing around the barrels again soon.
People who had tickets to Tuesday night’s show were offered refunds or given the opportunity to get tickets to another performance this year or next.
