Investigation into midway crash continues

It could be two months before we learn why the arm of a ride broke off and went crashing to the ground Friday night at Stampede.

Ten teenagers were injured in the incident, the most seriously of whom remains in hospital with two punctured lungs, spleen and kidney damage, and severe scrapes.

The girl’s mother, Crystal Cote, tells The Calgary Herald she’s yet to hear from the Stampede or the midway operator.

Another teen says he went to a medical clinic Saturday and was told he had a broken hand and a possible fracture to his femur.

But Dustin Anderson-Sharples says he was taken to a medical tent on Friday night, given water, an ice-pack and Tylenol, bandaged up and sent on his way.

The CEO for the Alberta Elevating Device & Amusement Rides Safety Association, a provincial body that oversees both amusement rides and elevators, says the investigation will take into account statements from witnesses, engineering reports, and input from safety experts.
