The Canadian ATV Safety Institute has announced a new training course for all-terrain riders.
This, as the number of injuries and deaths due to off-road vehicle use in Alberta continues to climb.
Three weeks ago, a 15-year-old from Sturgeon Country was killed when the quad he was driving flew off a trail throwing three passengers.
The chair of CSIA safety committee says the purpose of the new program is to improve the safety of ATV riders through a nationwide ATV education program, and promote the safe and responsible use of ATVs.
A report released by Alberta Transportation recorded 1,062 collisions involving off-road vehicles between 2004 and 2008. That resulted in 47 fatal collisions and 48 deaths, according to The Calgary Herald.
The vice president of the ATV Safety Institute says they believe the program will “enhance ATV safety across Canada.”
