More tornadoes possible through long weekend

After a tornado touched down near Sundre Friday afternoon, along with another reported near Balzac, Environment Canada says we could see more twisters this long weekend.

With conditions expected to be just as unstable, there’s the possibility of more tornadoes developing within expected thunderstorms.

There were no reports of damage or injuries from the twister confirmed to have touched down northwest of Sundre just before 3:30 Friday.

There was also at least one funnel cloud spotted developing over Calgary’s northwest, near Tuscany, but it fizzled.

A couple of spouts were also spotted near Balzac.

That’s where one man, who’d been out on his deck, tells CTV news it got eerily quiet outside as they saw the storm approaching.

He says a twister developed from the bottom up and suddenly, it looked like a car exploded.

Shortly after that, he says, the hail started.

Golf ball sized hail was reported to have fallen north of Calgary but there’s no word yet on damage.
