More students finding work, still cash-strapped

More students in Alberta found work this summer, but that hasn’t helped their bottom lines.

Stats Canada says nearly 80 per cent of students 20 to 24-years-old returning to post-secondary programs got jobs.

That’s up from just over 70 per cent last year.

But an education lobby group is calling on Ottawa to make changes to the student loan program.

The Canadian Education Project tells The Calgary Herald they want to see it better accommodate students who weren’t able to secure summer work, or didn’t earn enough to cover tuition.

The Canadian Federation of Students agrees, and also wants to see the feds provide more and better paying jobs for students.
