Police and Alberta Fish and Wildlife officers were called out to reports of a bear wandering around the northwest community of Royal Oak late Friday.
It was spotted near the Royal Oak Shopping Centre and called in to police.
Acting Inspector John Szczupack tells 660News they didn’t move in to remove the animal. “We’re trying to contain it. We just don’t want to scare it and have it attack someone, so we’re just keeping an eye on it.”
Police are asking for people to keep their distance and not scare the animal.
There were several bear sightings in northwest Calgary last week, and earlier this week a young bruin was tranquilized after crawling under a deck in Airdrie.
