Charges laid in laser incident

A 34 year old man has been charged for allegedly flashing a beam from a laser pointer at the Hawc 1 police helicopter.

Shortly after midnight, this morning, the chopper was responding to a call in the northeast area of Franklin when a laser was pointed at the helicopter. The pilot took evasive action and the crew put on protective eye wear. While the Hawc’s crew was trying to locate the source of the laser beam, they were flashed at least two more times.

Officers were able to figure out that the light came from a home in the 7800 block of Martha’s Haven Park northeast where they arrested a man.  They also found a Class 3B laser which can damage eyes instantly.

Jason John McConnel is facing two charges, including mischief causing danger to life.
