The Airdrie and District Agricultural Society has received official approval for the future development of a multi-use agricultural, rodeo and recreational complex just west of the city.

It will include facilities for a wide range of agricultural and other events as well as wetlands and interpretive trails.

Society president, Brenda Moon, says their focus will also be on cattle and bulls sales but hope to attract other events not related to agriculture including an indoor BMX facility down the road.

Phase one of the project is set to break ground in the spring of 2011.
