Aussie tourists did get bear warning

It turns out there was a sign warning campers about grizzlies near where a pair of Australian campers were mauled 15 years ago.

The two men are suing the Canadian government over the incident, saying they weren’t adequately warned about the bears.

But court heard Tuesday there was a sign that read “Bear in area, be careful” near the spot at Lake Louise where they had set up camp.

The Calgary Sun reports one of the men admitted he knew he might encounter a bear while camping in Banff National Park when questioned by a justice department lawyer.

The two men are seeking $75,000 in damages from the Canadian government.
