Province rolls out plan for flu shots

The province has rolled out its strategy for fighting the flu this winter.

Six clinics in Calgary will soon be open to people looking to get their shot.

The vaccines will be given out starting October 12th.

This year’s shot will protect people from three strains of the flu virus, including H1N1.

The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Andre Corriveau is encouraging all Albertans to get the shot, even though H1N1 in particular, shouldn’t end up being as widespread as it was last year.

“A significant portion of people don’t have immunity yet,” he says. “If you’ve had it before it would just serve as a booster, making you even less likely to get it a second time.”

It’s also not likely that we’ll see the massive lineups and vaccine shortages we did last year either, with health officials saying there’s more than enough vaccine this time.
