Firefighters Poll

Calgary Firefighters are out with an attention grabbing poll in the final weeks of the civic election campaign.

A Return on Insight telephone survey found three quarters of Calgarians believe investing in emergency services is extremely important.  It ranked ahead of Southeast LRT service and an airport tunnel.

Pollster Bruce Cameron tells 660News, a separate survey of firefighters found many are worried Calgary isn’t living up to international staffing and response standards.

“That is what firefighters really are concerned about, is that the number of people on a truck, when they arrive at the scene, or the number of people that are required to be at the scene within a certain number of minutes.  Those are things the firefighters themselves would be concerned about because they believe it compromises public safety.”

The poll also found half of Calgarians who were asked,  wanted services maintained, even if it meant higher taxes.
