Calgary’s mayoral race virtually a dead heat

A new poll shows support among the three frontrunners in the city’s race for mayor is pretty much equal.

A Calgary Herald/CTV News poll says former Alderman Ric McIver has the backing of 33 per cent of decided voters.

Former CTV news anchor Barb Higgins and Mount Royal University business professor Naheed Nenshi each have 30 per cent support.

The poll was conducted in the days leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday.

It also shows there are a lot of undecided voters, with their numbers pegged at 21 per cent.

Alderman Ric McIver tells 660News while poll numbers might change from week to week, they are not going to affect his campaign for the city’s top job.

Naheed Nenshi tells 660News he’s not surprised to see his campaign picking up momentum, adding a lot of his supporters are not at home to answer the phone when pollsters call, but they will be there come election day.

Barb Higgins tells 660News her campaign started to hit its stride after she changed campaign managers a few weeks ago.

All of the candidates say they will spend the next few days getting their message out and will concentrate on getting the vote out on Election Day.
