“Beltline rapist” appeal denied

The man known as the “Beltline rapist” will remain in jail indefinitely after his appeal was unanimously rejected.

Wafid Delaa was convicted on two counts of rape in 2006 stemming from separate incidents, in which he broke into residences and terrorized his victims.

The appeal was filed, saying the original judge erred in her judgement that Delaa was a dangerous offender, since two experts testified he could be rehabilitated.

The panel of three Court of Appeal judges denied the appeal, stating Judge Sandy Park had the right to accept the testimony of a separate psychologist, over the other two experts.
