First meeting for new council

City council is working with a full agenda today in its first sitting since the municipal election.

Transportation issues highlight the day, including how to spend green trip funding for transit and a motion by Alderman Jim Stevenson to move forward on a plan for the airport tunnel.

The motion, to spend $200-thousand on a design for the tunnel project, isn’t sitting well with the new group Citizens Opposed to the Airport Tunnel (COAT) which claims to have more than one thousand signatures opposing the project.

A spokesperson claims that if the tunnel goes ahead it will be at the expense of other projects like the southeast LRT line.
