Father of suspect slams RCMP over case of missing couple

The father of the man considered by RCMP to be the main suspect in the disappearance of Lyle and Marie McCann is speaking out.

Ed Vader tells CTV Edmonton that police have “bungled” the case.

He says his son Travis was an “easy pick” for police to focus on, adding he was already on police radar and could be picked up because of an outstanding charge.

Vader says they are getting painted with the dirty end of the brush.

He says he has spoken with his son and he maintains he had nothing to do with the McCann’s’ disappearance.

Jennifer Vader says they leave their porch light on every night, hoping and praying that the McCann’s are found alive and well and their son will be freed.

The McCann’s, who are in their seventies, haven’t been seen since they left their St. Albert home on July 3rd for a trip to B.C.

Two days after that trip began, the couple’s burned out recreational vehicle was found 200 kilometres west of Edmonton.

Two weeks later the SUV they were hauling was found abandoned in a thick bush in the same area.

The Mounties say they continue to investigate the McCann disappearance and maintain that Vader had something to do with the still missing couple.
