Enmax apologizes

Enmax brass say they didn’t understand what Calgarians wanted from them and say lessons have been learned.

The apology comes from the chair of the city owned utility and was made after a meeting between the mayor, city council and Enmax officials Friday.

It follows weeks of spending questions being raised around the salary of the company’s CEO and chairman, as well as bonuses handed out and parties with Canadian rockstars all paid for by taxpayers.

Chairman Cliff Fryers vows the utility will update the public on executive and board pay and be more transparent when it comes to spending.

“We are going to increase our disclosure, we’re going to recognize in a far better way that we are a symbol of the city of Calgary and we have certain requirements we have to live up to in doing that.”

Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he and city council will hold Enmax to that promise.

“We will make sure that were there are issues that we think the priorities of the citizens of Calgary have not been clearly understood, that we will make sure that they are clearly understood.”

Nenshi adds he is more concerned with company bonuses than employee salaries.

On a side note, Enmax’s budget was approved and projected earnings this year will be around $171-million.
