WestJet making arrangements to bring customers home from Cancun after resort explosion

WestJet is in the process of making arrangements with their customers at the Grand Riviera Princess Hotel Resort in Playa del Carmen on the Mayan Riviera.

They’ll be asking them if they’re looking to leave early, or if they want to continue their vacation.

Once they get the information, WestJet will make arrangements to send a rescue flight into Cancun.

Spokesman Richard Bartrem tells 660News, they have a little more than 400 of their customers staying at the very large resort that hosts more than 2,000 guests.

He adds, a little more than 70 people were to arrive Sunday. The hotel is not taking any more guests and WestJet has put those people in other hotels in the area.

WestJet has activated their emergency response team, as well as their family and friends hotline which is a toll-free number 1-866-786-6311 from Canada and the U.S.

The phone system is capable of handling numerous, simultaneous calls and the company is not anticipating any busy signals.
