Calgary church converts to Catholicism

An Anglican church in the southeast neighbourhood of Inglewood is going Catholic.

The congregation of St. John Evangelist, the only remaining Anglo-Catholic church in southern Alberta, has voted to accept an offer from Pope Benedict to convert to Catholicism.

The church is the first in Canada to make the change.

The church’s pastor says they decided to try out the new faith after 35 years of “isolation” from the Anglican Church of Canada.

The parish voted 90 per cent in favour of siding with the Vatican Nov. 21.
