Western provinces team-up on energy

The three western provinces have come together to expand and strengthen Canada’s position as an energy powerhouse.
Energy ministers from Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C. signed an agreement in Calgary on Thursday in an effort to improve access to Asian markets.
Energy Minister Ron Liepert says the memorandum of understanding will help break down trade barriers both within Canada and international markets like Asia.
Liepert says growing supplies of U.S. shale gas are killing the traditional market for Alberta producers and hopes the agreement will help get Alberta’s gas producers into the international market.
The agreement aims to combine and build on the energy strengths of all three provinces.
