With Barlow Trail being closed for good in April, north of 48th Avenue N.E., drivers who depend on the road are in for a rough ride.
That’s because the city’s solution of Metis Trail, as the north-south alternative route, won’t be ready at least until September.
With the Barlow closure, those headed to the airport will have Deerfoot Trail as the main access.
Grant Galpin with the Airport Trail Access Committee says they continue to worry about traffic in and around the airport.
The Committee has long been calling for another access to the airport.
“I think at this point that it’s crucial the city keep moving forward on the Airport Trail tunnel because ultimately that’s the solution, rather than force traffic all the the way around the airport,” says Galpin.
City council is expected to deal with the tunnel option at the end of the month.
