Man dies after dramatic river rescue

A man in his 50’s has died, after falling into the Bow River on Sunday.
Fire crews arrived on scene near the Mackenzie Meadows Golf Club just after 2 p.m.
Calgary Fire Information Officer Brian McAsey tells 660News the man was fishing along the waterway before suffering from cardiac arrest and falling into the frigid water.
“I believe we were alerted by the Calgary Police Services about a body in the water, and we immediately went into a rescue mode… which would have been the appropriate response,” says McAsey.
According to EMS, the man was rushed to Foothills Hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.
EMS Stuart Brideaux tells 660News they are not sure what caused the man to suffer from cardiac arrest.
