A Siberian tiger cub is putting on weight and has a normal heart rate and body temperature after veterinarians at the Calgary Zoo stepped in to take it away from its mother.
10 year-old Katja initially cared for the little cat, but vets noticed on Tuesday that feeding had become infrequent and the animal was moving less, so they stepped in to care for the cub.
Dr. Jake Veasy, head of Animal Care, tells 660News in captivity or the wild, tiger cubs face a tough road because the majority of them do not survive.
He says the cub will be cared for 24 hours a day by staff vets on rotating shifts.
