Avalanche risks lead to highway shutdowns

High avalanche risks have several highways closed in Alberta and British Columbia.
Highway 93 south from Castle Junction to Radium Hot Springs is shut down, due to an avalanche near the B.C.-Alberta border.
Highway 93 north remains closed between Lake Louise and Jasper.
Parks Canada is hoping to have the routes open again by Monday afternoon.
Omar McDadi with Parks Canada says there is a different route between B.C. and Alberta that is still open to drivers.
“As of right now the only way for people to get from B.C. to Alberta in the southern part of the provinces is to actually go through the Crowsnest Pass on Highway 3 in the southern end of B.C.”
The TransCanada is also affected by poor visibility and avalanches. Highway 1 is closed from Lake Louise to Field, B.C. It is also closed from Field to Golden because of an extreme avalanche hazard in the Kicking Horse Canyon, west of Yoho National Park. That stretch of road could remain shut down until Tuesday.
It isn’t clear when the portion between Lake Louise and Field will reopen.
The TransCanada between Golden and Revelstoke is now open, as is Lake Louise to West Louise Lodge.
