Problem managers common in Canadian workplaces

Bullying in the workplace is a growing concern in this country and it all starts in the corner office.
A new survey by the Human Resources Professionals Association and Canadian HR Reporter says bad bosses intimidate, play favourites and make inappropriate comments, ultimately costing some companies millions of dollars in lost productivity.
Nearly three quarters of HR professionals surveyed said they believe managers who play favourites or bully staff are a significant problem in today’s workplace.
More than a third of those same people also said they’ve seen signs that their organization will tolerate almost anything from a problem manager, as long as they’re achieving results.
660News gathered some bad boss horror stories on Calgary streets Wednesday morning, including one from a woman who says her boss fired her for not agreeing to work on her day off.
She eventually took the case to the labour board and advises other victims of bosses like hers to do the same.
