Wildrose Alliance celebrates third birthday

Wildrose Alliance leader Danielle Smith says she’s pleased with the progress her party has made, as the party today celebrates its third anniversary.
“We’re not in it to be in second place,” tells 660News. “We’re in it to form government. We have a lot of work that we still need to do. We have to earn the trust of Albertans, and slowly, slowly, bit by bit, I think we’re doing that. I leave it to Albertans to decide in the next election whether or not they think we’re ready for that job.”
Smith says the Wildrose Alliance has created something brand new by taking their members ideas and turning them into caucus position statements, a wave she hopes the party will ride right into government.
“In Alberta, we’re prepared to live with a government for a very long period of time as long as they’re serving us well,” says Smith. “But as soon as we see that they’re not serving us well and they become disconnected, that again creates these kinds of grass roots movements.”
When the party launched in 2008, it held only 7 per cent of the vote. Today, polls indicate the party is in a statistical tie with the governing Stelmach Conservatives.
Smith says she hopes to win the 2012 election so that her party can start working on things like the province’s health care system, improving democracy and restoring property rights.
