Driving conditions north of the city are deteriorating as the snow continues to fly.
We’re expecting a possible total of 25 centimetres between now and Sunday, and while in the city things aren’t horrible, outside Calgary it’s a different story.
The QE-II is now listed in fair condition by AMA with icy sections, but things are not getting better for drivers.
Art, who is driving from Edmonton to Calgary, says the situation is the worst between Red Deer and Crossfield.
“Just south of Olds there is an accident in one of the dips that has backed up traffic three miles it’s a parking lot. It’s really slick out here. There are cars in the ditch everywhere, there is even a hurse in the ditch” says Art.
Strathmore RCMP say the Trans Canada east of the city is also extremely slippery and recommending extra care if you are traveling.
In the city road crews are already out on the roads.
Spokesman Stephen Toro says this storm will be easier to deal with then the past storm, because this time around it doesn’t include a lot of wind.
“Wind definitely played a factor last time and hopefully.” says Toro.
Toro says a howling wind not only reduces visibility , but causes drifting and turn wet road surfaces into ice.
He says even though the snow is coming down over the weekend, they will have the same response as if it was a Monday morning rush hour.
