No expansion for downtown camera program

A pilot program that put up cameras in the city’s core to cut down on crime is not being recommended for expansion because of a lack of funding.
The camera surveillance initiative has garnered mixed reviews, being utilized about a hundred times over the last two years by police to help catch criminals.
Though he sees the value of the cameras, Alderman John Mar tells the Calgary Sun, he’s not ecstatic about the pilot project’s results.
He says it wasn’t absolutely critical for the arrests that were made, it was ‘supplementary.’
However, he says he still might recommend the program be expanded if they could find the funding.
