Mubarak may step down, sources say

CAIRO, Egypt – There are reports Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will step down and that vice-president Omar Suleiman will take over as leader.
The country’s military announced on national television that it has stepped in to “safeguard the country” and assured protesters that Mubarak will meet their demands and step down immediately.
The word of the change is coming from many sources.
The chief of the CIA was quoted as saying there is a “strong likelihood” that Mubarak will step down, while Fox News said it has confirmed with an Egyptian official that the president will concede and transfer power to a joint military council.
However, Egypt’s information minister, Anas el-Fiqqi, denies that Mubarak will step down.
This comes on the 17th day of protest and during one of the biggest rallies yet in Liberation Square.
The army’s chief of staff actually waded into the massive crowd and told protesters on a loud speaker that “tonight it will be over” and “all your demands will be met.”
