Hundreds participate in Family Day Fun

Calgarians celebrated Family Day across the city.
People took in activities at places like Fort Calgary, Heritage Park, the Olympic Oval and downtown.
Dozens of kids and parents strapped on their skates, built snowmen and drank hot chocolate at the Olympic Plaza.
They tell 660News what the day means to them.
“Having fun with your family,” says one young boy.
“Definitely being with my son, doesn’t matter what we do. I think it’s a great holiday, there’s no doubt,” says a father.
“It’s a day where you can be together and enjoy [time] with your family,” says a teen.
Many of the parents say they’re happy to have the day off of work to be with their children.
“You get to spend time together, especially after January, when there’s no long weekends,” says a mother. “This is a good time just to be together and not think of anything else.”
Flames legend Lanny McDonald headed to Olympic Plaza for the festivities.
“This is what it’s all about,” he tells 660News. “Parents, grandparents, kids out here skating, having fun and you couldn’t have picked a better day, absolutely wonderful weather, everything’s good.”
He adds, although he skated at the Heritage Classic Alumni Game, he still got to spend some time with his own family.
“My grandsons were here for the weekend. I had so much fun with them and my own kids,” he says.
The Alberta government designated the day a statutory holiday in 1990.
