YYC tunnel could delay new runway

There’s concern the upcoming airport tunnel construction could delay a new runway.

Alderman Gord Lowe says building the tunnel under the runway will require redesign work.

He tells The Calgary Herald that will delay the runway’s opening and the city will have to pay the price of being late.

YYC’s new takeoff and landing strip is currently scheduled to be up and running by 2014.

There are estimates the opening date could be pushed back by up to six months.
