Police arrest abduction suspect

Calgary police have arrested 43-year-old John Francis Dionne of Linden, Alberta.

This follows several Canada-wide warrants being issued for him following a 10-year-old Calgary girl being abducted from the Deerfoot Mall on Thursday night.

It all began around 6:30 p.m., when she became separated from her father and was approached by a man who claimed to be a police officer.

He accused her of shoplifting and she followed the suspect, but then began to question him and at one point refused to go.

Duty Inspector Quinn Jacques tells 660News that’s when she was picked up and carried into his vehicle.

The terrified girl was later released in Airdrie, unharmed.

Questions are still being raised about police protocol after it was discovered the RCMP had pulled the vehicle over earlier on Hwy 567 with her in the front seat, only to let the driver go with a speeding ticket.
