Experts predicting a dip for Calgary tourism

Tourism Calgary is predicting a slight drop in its forecast for the tourism industry this year and pointing the finger at both gas prices and the rising Canadian dollar.
CEO Randy Williams tells the Calgary Herald sky-rocketing gas prices will keep Canadians from doing as many long distance trips and the number of foreign visitors coming to Calgary will slip.
Tourism Calgary is now predicting tourism growth will fall to 3 per cent from
4 per cent.
Tourism consultant Derek Coke-Kerr says the rising dollar and gas price will impact incoming visitors to Calgary.
“From the domestic point of view, folks travelling around within the province, that could well improve. but I think we’re going to see a downturn in inbound and in coming tourism for some time”
But, he does agrees tourism won’t slip too badly.
Coke-Kerr says hotels may work with other attractions and put together attractive packages to entice travellers.
