Water main break damages several northwest homes

Flooding from a broken water main has damaged 13 homes near Confederation Park.

The water had risen above the top of the basement windows of several homes along Cambrian Drive, Rose Hill Drive and Rosery Drive.

Battalion Chief Ernie Molineaux with the Fire Department tells 660News some of the damage to the homes was severe.

“One of them, basically closest to the break had significant water in it and possible structural damage,” he says. “It’s going to have to be inspected to find out whether there’s any structural damage to the walls. Beyond that, it was from a few inches [of water] in some homes, to 18 inches in others.”

Firefighters pumped water out of the homes, and checked them for electrical hazards.

The burst main also created a large sink hole in the lane way behind Cambrian Drive.
